Finding Home in Montana

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.” Crowfoot, Native American warrior and orator

The moon!

DSC_001101.17.13  There was the waxing crescent moon last night above the fog bank right at sunset!  I thought of the wonderful story Nancy Rotenberg tells in her book, Photography and the Creative Life:

“There is a story of St. Francis of Assisi ringing a bell one evening as he stood in awe of the moon, bathing the earth in its radiance.  In his enthusiasm, he kept ringing the bell over and over again.  The people of the village came running, worried about some impending disaster.  When asked what was wrong, St. Francis replied simply,  Lift up your eyes, my friends.  Look at the moon!”
