05.01.14 Well, April went out beautifully, and this first day of May reached unseasonably warm temps of 72 degrees. It is way too hot for this time of year, and in a few days, we will be back to the 50’s with some rain, and lest we forget, June is our rainiest month. At 8 p.m. tonight, dinner is still in the oven because who could come inside to cook when it’s this gorgeous outside. I went for a bike ride yesterday in Whitefish with a friend, and the forest along the bike path smelled like summer, and people were out on kayaks on the lake, and it was 10 p.m. before I went to bed. Summer hours. The last thing I did before falling asleep was to catch a glimpse from my pillow of the new waxing fingernail moon over the lake. This is the first time in seven months in which we’ve experienced temperatures over 70 degrees. It feels a little shocking, to tell you the truth.
On our run this morning, we saw the first goslings of the season, floating on the ponds, tucked in between mom and dad. After such a long Winter, Spring is really happening! I keep thinking of my Berkeley granddaughter, who didn’t want her treat at the Oakland A’s baseball game until the ninth inning, because she wanted it to be “really special”. When you wait a long long long time, it is really special.
