07.25.15 Glacier Park has a big fire on the east side. We knew in June that we’d have this day. But, oh how lovely it was here at the lake the other morning. I awoke to the sound of rain out my window in the dark dawn. Can there be anything so lovely as that sweet smell and the sound of raindrops falling through aspen leaves, whilst knowing the dry forest is burning an hour northeast of me. The drops of water, resting on leaves of the wild rose, were nearly as big as the new rose hips. Fire and water–two of the Five Elements of Nature. In the midst of everything we fear, there are still bonuses. William Stafford says it so beautifully…
Yes
It could happen any time, tornado,
earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen.
Or sunshine, love, salvation.
It could you know. That’s why we wake
and look out–no guarantees
in this life.
But some bonuses, like morning,
like right now, like noon,
like evening.
